Snowbirds?

Right now it seems to be on the way to Spring: from a low of -35.5 on March 2 it has now warmed up to highs between five and ten degrees above zero. It is much too early to think this could last, of course, but the air smells different, the bird voices are more varied, and there is at least the hope that winter's grip has been broken.

It feels almost wrong to leave now, yet we are going south for about two weeks. It is a trip we have been planning since last year, when we had hoped to hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, but had to abandon the idea when I hurt my back in an earlier hike. Maybe we will be more successful this time. If not, I know we will still see a lot of interesting sights, and I will try to write about our experiences on my travel blog. Once again, then, I will post under

Every Day is a Journey

Poetic musings from the farm

Over the last three years or so this blog has been a way for me to reflect on many aspects of the place where I live, and I hope this will continue to be so.

At the same time, however, some of my musings have led to a different form of expression: I am also a poet. A group of my poems have been chosen for publication in a chapbook, a small volume of poetry. "In the Shelter of the Poplar Grove" will be published in May, and I am very pleased to post the announcement for anyone who might be interested:
